- What is the Google Search Console MCP server?
- It is a free hosted MCP server that lets an AI client read your Google Search Console data. You connect your Google account once, AskWatch issues you a personal link, and you paste that link into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Code. From then on you ask questions in plain language (how the site did last month, what dropped, which pages compete with each other) and the client answers from your own Search Console data. Access is read-only.
- Do I need a Google Cloud project or a credentials.json file?
- No. That is the whole point of a hosted server: the OAuth client is ours, so there is no Cloud project to create, no API to enable, no consent screen to configure and no credentials file to download and keep safe on your machine. You approve one Google consent screen and you are done.
- Which AI clients does it work with?
- There are written instructions for eight: Claude, ChatGPT (with Developer mode turned on), Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Gemini CLI. The server speaks Streamable HTTP and takes the key either as part of the address or as an Authorization header, so any MCP client that can add a remote server will work.
- Is it really free?
- Yes, and there is nothing to upgrade to here: no card, no trial clock, no locked tools. AskWatch is an AI visibility tracker, and this server is how the people who would use that product meet us. The only limits are the ones that stop a looping agent from spending your Google quota.
- What can it change in my Search Console?
- Nothing. The server asks Google for a read-only scope (webmasters.readonly), which cannot submit a sitemap, request indexing, remove a URL or alter a property in any way. Even if you wanted it to write, this grant could not.
